Firefighters in western Canada are in the process of battling the first major wildfires of 2024, Reuters reported.

Domain Capital Group and its subsidiary Domain Timber Advisors announced the acquisitions of five new assets totaling 5,800 acres on behalf of its forestland portfolio.

Boise National Forest fire managers plan six prescribed fires totaling 1,354 acres starting this week, the Capital Press reported.

The number of active large fires (not including individual fires within complexes) stands at 6. Currently, there are 8,965 acres actively involved in fires.

The start of wildfire season in Canada has been far less intense than it was last year, but the risk of hot, dry weather and severe fires remains high, The Canadian Press reported.

As of Friday, May 3rd, 8 new large wildfires were reported during the week. Currently, 3 large uncontained wildfires are burning in California, Florida, and Oregon.

As of April 26th, 10 new large wildfires were reported during the week. Currently, 4 large uncontained wildfires are burning in Arizona, Colorado, and Virigina.

The process converts low-grade timber and low-value lumber into a wood product that can be used as a substitute for lumber and timber in various applications, Canadian Forest Industries reported.
