Canadian Consumer Price Index Increased at a Slower Rate in January
Statistics Canada reported Tuesday that the Canadian Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased 5.9% year-over-year in January, following a 6.3% increase in December. Prices rose 4.9% on a year-over-year basis excluding food and energy.
The Conference Board Leading Economic Index® Declined Again in January
The Conference Board released Friday its Leading Economic Index® (LEI) for the US in January. The LEI declined 0.3% in January to a reading of 110.3 (2016=100), following a 0.8% decline in December. The LEI has dropped 3.6% over the six-month period from July 2022 to January 2023.
Mortgage Credit Availability Declines in November
According to the latest Mortgage Bankers Association’s Mortgage Credit Availability Index (MCAI), which analyzes data from Ellie Mae’s AllRegs® Market Clarity® business information tool, mortgage credit availability declined in November. The MCAI fell by -0.6% in November to a reading of 124.9. A decline in the MCAI indicates that lending standards are tightening, while increases in the index are indicative of loosening credit.
