Use of Mass Timber Frames on Upswing in U.S.

While coming late to the game, mass timber frames in the U.S. are on an upswing. Thanks in part to the sustainable material being renewable and recent changes in building codes. According to WoodWorks, a nonprofit technical group that promotes the use of wood in nonresidential and multifamily building, there are 445 engineered wood projects completed or under construction in the U.S. and 534 more in the design process.

Wingspan Event and Conference Center in Hillsboro Oregon has been Completed Using Glulam and CLT Construction Design

The 89,000-square-foot Wingspan Event and Conference Center in Hillsboro Oregon has been completed, consistent with national and local safety precautions during the pandemic. The project features a glulam and CLT “butterfly roof” structure over steel-framed galleries and circulation areas, designed by LRS Architects and structural engineer IMEG.

Softwood Lumber Board Announces Addition of Industry Veteran Nick Milestone

The Softwood Lumber Board (SLB) has announced that Nick Milestone, has joined the SLB to support its mission in the area of strategic partnership and adoption of mass timber construction in the U.S. Milestone is a veteran of the European and United Kingdom mass timber markets and is the current chairman of the Timber Research and Development Trade Association (TRADA).
