Sweden’s Setra to Invest in Its Own Pellet Plant at Its Långshyttan Glulam Factory

Setra, one of Sweden’s largest wood products companies, announced on Friday (9-16-22) that it intends to invest in its own pellet production plant at its factory in Långshyttan. In a statement, the company says the investment is strategic and will increase the value of bioproducts, as well as reduce transportation and CO2 emissions.

The Långshyttan factory produces glulam, components, and cross-laminated timber. The production gives rise to bio products such as shavings, wood chips, and pieces of wood. Today, these go to domestic heat production and to customers in the immediate area.

The pellet plant is expected to be operational in the autumn of 2023. When at full capacity the pellet plant’s capacity will be an estimated 26,000 tons per year. The investment will also require additional new hires.

In addition to increased value for the bioproducts, the investment means a better environment in the factory with less sawdust dust and more efficient transports, with higher load filling and thus lower carbon dioxide emissions.
