LP Building Solutions announced today (2-14-22) that it has entered into an agreement with Resolute Forest Products Inc. to sell its 50% equity interest in two joint ventures that produce I-joists. The sale, which is subject to customary adjustments, is valued at $50 million. The joint ventures are comprised of Resolute-LP Engineered Wood Larouche Inc. and Resolute-LP Engineered Wood St-Prime Limited Partnership.

Georgia-Pacific Announces $20 Million Investment in Alcolu, South Carolina OSB Mill
Georgia-Pacific has announced that it will be investing $20 million in its Alcolu, South Carolina OSB mill. The project’s focus will be to add on a third strander onto the facility. A strander is on the green-end of the facility, or where the logs enter the process. Once the logs are debarked, they go into the strander, which processes the wooden flakes used in the OSB process.
Huber Engineered Wood Submits Revised Environmental Assessment Worksheet to the Cohasset, MN City Council
Huber Engineered Woods of Charlotte, NC submitted a revised Environmental Assessment Worksheet (EAW) on Tuesday (1-18-22) to the City of Cohasset, Minnesota. Huber is hoping to win the city’s approval to construct a 750,000 square-foot mill on about 400 acres adjacent to Minnesota Power’s Boswell Energy Center in Cohasset, which was originally announced in June of 2021.
Saskatchewan Forest Industry to Benefit from British Columbia’s Reduced Timber Basket
Despite its vast and mature forests, Saskatchewan forestlands have been under-utilized. That is until now. Over the past several weeks, the province has announced a reallocation of its forest resources, primarily located north of Saskatoon, and that will result in sizeable forest industry investments. Those forestland reallocations are expected, over the next two years, to lead to over a $1 billion dollars (CAD) in new investments in Saskatchewan’s forest industry.

West Fraser Temporarily Eliminates Weekend Shift at Williams Lake Plywood Mill
According to West Fraser corporate spokesperson Joyce Wagenaar, “As a result of the significant flooding in southern B.C., the province is now facing serious transportation and logistics issues impacting highways, rail, and our ports.” West Fraser’s Williams Lake mills will be operating at its usual Monday through Friday schedules; however, the company is temporarily curtailing its weekend shift at its plywood mill.
