Canfor Corporation announced on Tuesday (8-24-21) that it will be implementing operation reductions at its BC sawmills, with the exception WynnWood, commencing the week of August 30, 2021. As a result, Canfor’s BC mills are expected to operate at approximately 80% of production capacity and operating schedules may continue to vary as economic conditions warrant.
Woodgrain Inc. to Expand Operations in Southwest Virginia
Virginia Governor Ralph Northam announced on Friday (8-20-21) that Woodgrain Inc., a family-owned business based in Idaho and one of the largest millwork companies in the world, will be investing $9 million to expand its operation in Smyth County and investing more than $8 million to purchase and expand the former Independence Lumber sawmill in Grayson.

Conifex Timber Inc. announced on Friday (8-20-21) that it will be temporarily curtailing production at their Mackenzie, British Columbia, Canada sawmill for two weeks, starting on Monday, August 23, 2021. The bioenergy operations will remain uninterrupted.

Interfor Corporation Announces $30 Million Expansion Plan at Summerville, S.C. Sawmill
Interfor Corporation has announced that it plans to expand its sawmill operations in Summerville, South Carolina. Interfor plans on investing $30 million (USD) to increase production capacity needed to “meet growing demand for its products, improve manufacturing productivity, and enhance product mix.”
Canfor Reopens Houston B.C. Sawmill as Rail Congestion and Wildfire Concerns Ease
The Houston B.C. Today Newspaper is reporting that Canfor reopened their Houston Mill facility on Monday, August 9, 2021. This follows a two-week shutdown caused by rail system bottlenecks and other problems in southern B.C. resulting from wildfire outbreaks in the area.
Interfor Announces Plans to Restart Recently Purchased DeQuincy, Louisiana Sawmill
Interfor Corporation and Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards have jointly announced the planned restarting of operations at the sawmill in DeQuincy, Louisiana, which has annual lumber production capacity of 200 million board feet. Lumber production is expected to begin in the first half of 2022.

Seventy firefighters from 11 different departments battled a blaze on Monday afternoon at Millett Lumber Co. in Chester Grant, Nova Scotia. The mill produced boards, dimensional lumber, siding, decking as well as dressed and rough small squares and timbers.
Interfor Expecting Production Disruptions at Interior B.C. Sawmills in Q3 Due to Impact of Wildfires and Other Factors on Log Supply
Interfor, on Thursday (7-29-21), announced that it is expecting production disruptions at its B.C. Interior sawmills during Q3 of 2021 due to the ongoing impacts of wildfires and other factors on log supply. Interfor said that based on current information, it is expecting to curtail a minimum of 50 million board feet of production across its B.C. Interior operations in August.
