EU Formally Adopts Extension of Birch Plywood Antidumping Measures for Kazakhstan and Turkey

The European Union has formally adopted the extension of antidumping measures on birch plywood imports to include those from Kazakhstan and Turkey, Timber Industry Magazine reported on Monday.

In March, the EU announced that its investigations, sparked by European plywood manufactures allegations, had unearthed “undeniable proof of circumvention” of existing duties on Russia. Birch ply shipments were being shipped from Russia to Kazakhstan and Turkey, then forwarded on to the EU.

The EU says that the formal extension demonstrates that the Commission is committed to enforcing measures in place and to fighting unfair trade.

Its announcement said Russian producers are trying to find alternative channels to sell their goods, particularly since July 2022, when imports of birch plywood from Russia were banned following the February 2022 start of the Ukraine conflict.
