BC Forestry Sector Embarks on Mission to Japan to Showcase BC’s Innovation in Wood Products

Led by British Columbia’s Minister of Forests, Bruce Ralston, a group representing the BC forestry sector are embarking on a mission to Japan to showcase the innovation of BC wood products. The delegation will include the Ministry of Forests, as well as First Nations delegates and forestry-sector representatives from companies of all sizes.

According to the press release, the mission is an opportunity to highlight several transformative initiatives taking place in BC’s forestry sector, making BC’s products more sustainable and internationally competitive. The mission will show how Japan can benefit from BC’s high-quality materials, from use in low-carbon homes to mass timber commercial buildings.

As part of the changes in BC forestry planning, the Province is partnering with First Nations and communities to establish Forest Landscape Plans to sustainably manage forests to emphasize forest health, biodiversity, and cultural values.

“Japan is a long-standing market for BC forest products with new opportunities for BC’s high-value lumber and manufactured wood products, such as mass timber,” Ralston said. “The demand for wood building material is growing, and the sustainability and innovation in BC’s forestry sector makes it globally recognized as one of the best options to choose from.”
