US National Interagency Fire Center Wildfire Update as of June 13

The US National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC) reported that as of Friday, June 13, 15 large wildfires are being managed with full suppression strategies, while one is under a different strategy, across seven geographic areas.

More than 2,700 wildland firefighters and support personnel are currently assigned to these incidents. The National Fire Preparedness Level remains at a 2 out of 5.

American firefighters and support personnel are also assisting with wildland fire response efforts in Canada, where the national preparedness level is currently at 5. The National Multi-Agency Coordinating Group approved requests for assistance from the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Center. US resources have been deployed to Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba, providing interagency hotshot crews, incident management teams, overhead personnel, aviation resources, equipment, and supplies.

As of Friday, June 13, five new large wildfires or emergency responses are ongoing. Oregon currently has three active wildfires. California, Nevada, and New Mexico each have two wildfires burning. One wildfire is reported in each of the following states: Arizona, Florida, Idaho, Minnesota, Montana, and Utah.

In total, 42,744 acres are actively burning, with only one wildfire currently reported as partially contained.

The updated year-to-date comparison is as follows:

  • Year-to-date through June 13, 31,039 wildfires have been reported, and they have burned 1,293,101 acres.
  • During the same period last year, 14,039 wildfires were reported, and they had burned 2,060,804 acres.
  • The 10-year average (2015–24) for the same time period is 23,085 wildfires and 1,377,742 acres burned.
