Rettenmeier Holding Acquires Large Share of Insolvent Ziegler Group’s Operations
The timber group Rettenmeier Holding AG has acquired the sawmill and other significant parts of the wood processing division of the Ziegler Group, its insolvency administrator announced on Friday, BR24 reported (1-31-25).
Specifically, Rettenmeier will take over the business operations of six Ziegler companies, including the large sawmill at the Plößberg headquarters. The acquisition also covers the forestry service in Plößberg and the pellet and planing mill in Pressath, which suffered millions of euros in damage from a major fire in late November.
Rettenmeier is also acquiring two small brick and tile companies that were not affected by the holding company’s insolvency: the mechanical engineering firm Prechtl in Burghausen, which has ten employees, and the conveyor technology company Ruhland in Schirmitz, with three employees.
The purchase price was not disclosed. According to the insolvency administrator, the creditors have already approved the purchase, but the approval of the antitrust authorities is still pending.
Investor negotiations for some other subsidiaries are still ongoing.
