New Council Formed to Support Forestry in British Columbia

On Thursday, the BC Ministry of Forests announced the creation of the Provincial Forest Advisory Council, established in partnership with the BC Green caucus under the Cooperation and Responsible Government Accord 2025.

The council will advise the government on achieving clear, measurable outcomes to support healthy forests, healthy ecosystems, and a healthy forestry sector. Its mandate includes advancing forest stewardship while supporting the communities and workers who depend on forestry.

The council will consult with industry groups—such as the Provincial Forestry Forum and ecological, environmental, and biodiversity experts—to engage the public and honor commitments to work collaboratively with First Nations. According to the government, this community-driven approach is intended to promote inclusivity and prioritize land-based certainty and sustainability.

An interim report will be delivered to the BC government and Green caucus this fall, with a final report due by the end of 2025.
