Brazilian Exports of Wood-Based Products Increase Year-Over-Year in December
According to the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO), Brazilian exports of wood-based products (excluding pulp and paper) rose 14% in value year-over-year in December, increasing from US$276.4 million in December 2023 to $315.2 million in December 2024.
The product breakdown is as follows:
- Pine sawnwood exports grew 15% in value, rising from $52.3 million in December 2023 to $60.0 million in December 2024. In volume, exports increased 3% over the same period, from 237,800 m3 to 245,100 m³.
- Tropical sawnwood exports increased 9% in volume, from 22,100 m3 in December 2023 to 24,000 m3 in December 2024. In value, exports rose from $9.1 million to $9.4 million.
- Pine plywood exports saw a 37% increase in value, climbing from $50.5 million in December 2023 to $69.1 million in December 2024. In volume, exports rose 33%, from 165,700 m3 to 219,900 m3.
- Tropical plywood exports surged 83% in volume and 73% in value, rising from 1,800 m3 and $1.1 million in December 2023 to 3,300 m3 and $1.9 million in December 2024.
- Wooden furniture exports increased 19% in value, from $45.6 million in December 2023 to $54.2 million in December 2024.
Consolidated trade data for 2024 indicate that Brazil’s total exports from January to December declined 0.8% compared to 2023, amounting to $337.0 billion. Meanwhile, imports grew 9.0% to $262.48 billion, resulting in a trade surplus of $74.55 billion, according to the Ministry of Development, Industry, and Foreign Trade (MDIC).
