Existing-Home Sales Climb 9.4% in September to 6.5 Million

The National Association of Realtors® (NAR) is reporting that total existing-home sales, completed transactions that include single-family homes, townhomes, condominiums and co-ops, increased 9.4% from August to a seasonally-adjusted annual rate of 6.5 million in September.

Canadian Home Prices Rise 1.1% in September

According to the Teranet-National Bank Composite House Price Index (CHPI), which tracks data collected from public land registries to measure changes for repeat sales of single-family homes, Canadian home prices rose 1.1% in September 2020 when compared to August 2020. Making this the second strongest September on record.

Lot Values Decline for the First Time Since 2013

Analysis of the U.S. Census Bureau’s Survey of Construction (SOC) data, by the NAHB, reveals that the median single-family lot price declined in 2019, ending a climb that started in 2013. The median lot prices were $ 45,000, which is a drop of 9% since 2018, when half of the lots were selling at $49,500.

Building Material Sales Increase in September

According to the latest U.S. Census Bureau monthly tally, retail sales increased their rate of growth in September. The bureau estimated September sales for building material & garden equipment and supplies dealers (NAICS 444) at $38,204,000,000.
