US National Interagency Fire Center Wildfire Update as of June 6
National Fire News: June 6, 2025
The US National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC) reported that as of Friday, June 6, there are 7 large wildfires under full suppression strategies in 5 geographic areas.
Nearly 1,100 wildland firefighters and support personnel are assigned to incidents across the nation. The National Fire Preparedness Level remains at a 2 out of 5.
Cooperation With Canada
In response to wildfire activity in western Canada, the National Multi-Agency Coordinating Group has approved a request for assistance from the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Center. The National Interagency Coordination Center, in Boise, Idaho, is coordinating the mobilization of US resources to Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. Support may include interagency hotshot crews, incident management teams, overhead personnel, aviation resources, equipment, and supplies.
The Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Center (CIFFC) continues to hold its National Preparedness Level at 5, the highest level.

As of Friday, June 6, there were no large new wildfires burning in the US. There are currently two wildfires burning in Minnesota, and one in Arizona, California, Florida, Montana, and New Mexico. There are a total of 22,046 acres burning. No fires are partially contained.
The updated year-to-date comparison is as follows:
- Year-to-date through June 6, 29,239 wildfires have been reported, and they have burned 1,240,993 acres.
- During the same period last year, 13,177 wildfires were reported, and they had burned 1,991,404 acres.
- The 10-year average (2015–24) for the same time period is 22,088 wildfires and 1,212,759 acres burned.
