New Forests Acquires 44,200 Acres of Washington Timberland
New Forests recently announced that it has acquired 44,200 acres (17,900 hectares) of forestry assets in Washington State from Campbell Global.
The property is a plantation forest consisting primarily of Douglas-fir and western hemlock. It is located near domestic processing infrastructure and key log export facilities, supporting market access for timber products.
New Forests said the forest also supports a diverse ecological landscape, including the marbled murrelet, northern spotted owl, North American black bear, black-tailed deer, and Roosevelt elk. Extensive natural vegetation, river and creek systems, and wildlife presence create opportunities for conservation and biodiversity enhancement outcomes.
The company intends to maintain an active harvest program while exploring opportunities for carbon project development, with potential additional revenue from conservation easements and renewable energy.
The acquisition expands New Forests’ footprint across the US, which includes assets in Northern California, Southwestern Oregon, and the US South.
