Canfor’s Closed Plateau Sawmill in BC Sold to Four First Nations

Canfor’s former Plateau sawmill in Vanderhoof, BC, has been sold to four First Nations, CBC News reported (7-1-26).

The buyers—Stellat’en First Nation, Nadleh Whut’en First Nation, Saik’uz First Nation, and Lheidli T’enneh First Nation—plan to convert the site into an industrial site.

The nations said they will share more details at a July 10 media event. Their first customer will be BC Hydro, with the site being leased to support construction of the North Coast Transmission Line, a CA$6 billion project that would double the amount of electricity flowing from Prince George to Terrace.

Located about 85 kilometers west of Prince George, the Plateau site covers about four square kilometers and includes a rock quarry, rail siding, and sawmill equipment.
