For the First Time Since the End of May, No Quebec Wildfires Considered Out-of-Control
The Canadian Press on Monday (7-10-23) reported that for the first time since the end of May, Quebec’s provincial forest fire prevention agency (SOPFEU) says there are no out-of-control wildfires burning in the province.
SOPFEU is reporting that there are currently 57 wildfires in the southern half of the province, of which 38 are under control and 19 are considered contained. There are 86 wildfires in the province’s northern half, where fires are only fought if they pose a threat to communities or important infrastructure. SOPPEFU considers a fire contained when it is no longer growing but could regain strength.
For comparison, in early June there were more than 100 out-of-control fires burning in the province.
