US National Interagency Fire Center Wildfire Update for April 3

The US National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC) reported that as of Friday, April 3, 11 fires are burning uncontained across the country, with 63 new wildfires reported during the week.

The National Fire Preparedness Level remains at 2 out of 5. A total of 1,200 wildland firefighters and support personnel are assigned nationwide.

Wildland firefighters continue to face mixed conditions across regions. Recent precipitation in parts of the South has slowed fire behavior on several incidents, aiding containment efforts. However, dry and windy conditions persist in some areas, sustaining elevated fire risk. As spring progresses, drying grasses and fine fuels are expected to support faster fire spread, particularly on windy days, ahead of full green-up.
