Metsä Wood Announces Plans to Construct a New Kerto® LVL Mill in Äänekoski, Finland
Metsä Wood, a European manufacturer of engineered wood products, and construction company SRV announced late last week (8-31-23) that they have signed an agreement for the construction of Metsä Wood’s new Kerto® LVL mill in Äänekoski, Finland. SRV will be the main contractor for the project, which will be carried out as a cooperative project management contract.
Metsä Wood expects to begin production in the second half of 2026. The mill will have an annual capacity of 160,000 cubic meters, a 50% increase in the company’s total Kerto LVL capacity.
In June, Metsä Wood decided to build the new Kero LVL mill, and preparatory work at the mill site has progressed as planned. The construction phase is estimated to need approximately 1,000 person-years. When the project is completed, the mill will employ around 150 people directly and 200 people in its direct value chain.
