Grafton Group to Acquire Ireland Timber Frame Supplier Cygnum

Grafton Group plc has agreed to acquire the entire issued share capital of Cygnum Holdings Limited, subject to approval by Ireland’s Competition and Consumer Protection Commission.

Founded in 1997 and based in Macroom, Co. Cork, Cygnum is a made-to-order supplier of offsite timber frame solutions serving developers and contractors in Ireland. The company reported unaudited 2025 revenue of €45.6 million (US$52.8 million) and adjusted operating profit of €7.9 million (US$9.1 million).

Grafton said Cygnum will operate within Chadwicks Group, its distribution business in the Republic of Ireland. The acquisition supports Chadwicks’ strategy to expand adjacent capabilities and position itself as a one-stop shop as customers adopt modern construction methods.

Timber frame construction continues to gain share in Ireland’s housing market. According to the Irish Timber Frame Manufacturers’ Association, timber frame accounted for 37% of low-rise housing in 2019, rising to 61% of scheme developments in the second half of 2025, based on government data.

The shift reflects cost, quality, and delivery advantages, as Ireland works to address a structural housing shortage. Just over 36,000 homes were completed in 2025, compared with a government target of 60,000 annually by 2030.
