Tla’amin Nation to Acquire Western Forest Products Tree Farm License in BC

The Tla’amin Nation, through its company Qwoqwnes Forestry Holdings, has agreed to purchase a Tree Farm License (TFL) from Western Forest Products, expanding its stewardship over traditional territory, Indiginews reported (3-18-26).

The agreement, signed February 19, covers the Stillwater Forest Operation in the qathet (Powell River) region. The acquisition will bring approximately 43% of Tla’amin territory under the Nation’s stewardship and control, according to Tla’amin Hegus (Chief) John Hackett.

Qwoqwnes said it plans to manage the license through its subsidiary, Thichum Forest Products.

Tla’amin Management Services CFO Dillion Johnson said the purchase reflects both economic and stewardship priorities, describing a “quadruple bottom line” approach encompassing economic, environmental, social, and cultural outcomes.
