Carrier Forest Products to Indefinitely Curtail Big River, SK, Sawmill

On Thursday, Carrier Forest Products announced that it will indefinitely curtail production at its Big River, Saskatchewan, sawmill beginning October 16, citing “many challenges, including the cumulative and ongoing effects of persistent weak market conditions,” The Canadian Press reported (7-16-26).

The curtailment will affect approximately 117 employees. Some employees will remain at the site through the end of January 2027 to ensure an orderly curtailment. The company said it regrets the impact on employees, their families, local communities, suppliers, and customers.

In a statement, Carrier said:

“Management has not determined that the facility will be permanently closed and remains committed to reviewing all options to resuming operations in the future.”
