Interfor Adds Second Shift at Grand Forks, BC, Sawmill
Second shift added to Grand Forks’ Interfor mill
Interfor is adding a second shift at its Grand Forks, BC, sawmill, the Grand Forks Gazette reported (6-2-26).
Grand Forks Mayor Everett Baker told the newspaper in a text message that he was pleased to hear the second shift started on Monday. The planer mill is also expected to return to two shifts by the end of the month.
Baker said the mill still needs log supply, but added that the team working to bring the operation back to at-or-near full shifts is getting closer to its goal.
It was not clear how many employees would return. In November 2025, Interfor brought back a single shift of 68 employees at the mill.
The update follows Interfor’s September 2025 announcement that it would curtail the Grand Forks mill for three weeks. The curtailment was later extended indefinitely because of poor market conditions and a company-wide plan to reduce production levels.
