BLM to Sell 6.5 Million Board Feet of Idaho Timber

On Wednesday, the US Bureau of Land Management (BLM) announced that it will offer two Idaho timber sales on August 10, making about 6.5 million board feet available through competitive sealed bidding.

The projects cover nearly 600 acres of public land and are intended to support Idaho jobs, provide materials for local mills and construction, and reduce wildfire risk.

1. The Bennett Mountain Timber Sale includes thinning on 434 acres near Mountain Home in Elmore County and is expected to produce 5.7 million board feet. BLM will accept sealed written bids until September 1.
2. The Sheridan Ridge #2 Timber Sale includes commercial thinning on 158 acres near Kilgore in Clark County and is expected to produce 850,000 board feet. Sealed written bids are due on August 27.

BLM Idaho Acting State Director Meagan Conry said:

“More than 20% of BLM-managed lands nationally are forest and woodland ecosystems. The BLM ensures the health and resilience of these public forests and the availability of traditional forest products such as timber. Timber sales help reduce wildfire risk, improve, maintain, and restore forest health, water quality, and fish and wildlife habitat.”
