US Construction Job Openings Increase in June
Construction Job Openings Rising
A closer look at the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ (BLS) latest Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS), with analysis by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), shows that construction sector job openings increased to 305,000 in June from 291,000 in May. The total was also above the 224,000 openings reported a year earlier.
NAHB noted that construction job openings remain measurably below levels from three years ago because of weaker construction activity, particularly in housing. Recent gains in nonresidential construction have increased demand for labor but have not fully offset weakness in the residential sector.
Construction activity in subsectors such as data centers, which was up 46% year-over-year, continued to support demand for construction workers.
The sector’s job openings rate increased to 3.5% in June from 2.6% a year earlier. The layoff rate held at 2.0%, while the quits rate increased to 1.8%.
