US Wood Pellet Exports Increased Month-Over-Month and Year-Over-Year in December

According to data released on Tuesday (2-7-23) by United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Foreign Agricultural Service, and analysis by Biomass Magazine, the US exported 917,175.4 metric tons of wood pellets in December. This is above November’s shipment of 694,199.7 metric tons, as well as the 798,883.6 metric tons exported in December 2021.

The US exported wood pellets to more than 12 different countries in December. The UK was the top destination for US wood pellet exports in December at 360,711.6 metric tons, followed by Japan at 220,953.7 metric tons and the Netherlands at 212,799.6 metric tons.

The value of wood pellet exports reached $152.95 million in December. This is up from $120.94 million in November and $101.07 million in December 2021.

Total wood pellet exports for all of 2022 reached 8.98 million metric tons at a value of $1.54 billion, compared to 7.45 million metric tons at a value of $1.05 billion exported in 2021. The UK was the top US wood pellet destination in 2022, receiving 5.29 million metric tons, followed by the Netherlands at 1.76 million metric tons and Japan at 646,700.7 metric tons.
