US Wood Pellet Exports Down Month-Over-Month but Up Year-Over-Year in February

According to data released on Wednesday (4-5-23) by US Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Foreign Agricultural Service and reporting by Biomass Magazine, the US exported 632,043.8 metric tons of wood pellets in February. This is down from 637,518.4 metric tons of wood pellets in January, but up from reported shipments of 628,659.8 metric tons in February 2022.

The US exported wood pellets to more than 12 different countries in February. The UK was the top destination for US wood pellet exports at 405,390.2 metric tons, followed by the Netherlands at 144,391.1 metric tons and Japan at 76,895.0 metric tons.

The value of US wood pellet exports reached $117.99 million in February, up from $114.66 million in January and $82.71 million a year ago.

Biomass Magazine notes total US wood pellet exports for the first two months of 2023 reached 1.27 million metric tons at a value of $233.65 million, compared to 1.28 million metric tons exported during the same period in 2022 at $185.36 million.
