US Wood Pellet Exports Decline Month-Over-Month but Rise Year-Over-Year in April

The US exported 819,341.5 metric tons of wood pellets in April, down from 938,662.3 metric tons in March but up from 720,209.2 metric tons in April 2023, a Biomass Magazine review (6-6-24) of data released by the US Department of Agriculture Foreign Agricultural Service shows.

The US exported wood pellets to approximately 16 countries in April. The UK was the top destination for US wood pellet exports at 500,136.1 metric tons, followed by Japan at 180,621 metric tons, France at 62,371.9 metric tons, the Netherlands at 32,400.9 metric tons, and Belgium-Luxembourg at 24,717.8 metric tons.

The value of wood pellet exports was $157.26 million in April, down from $174.33 million in March but up from $129.17 million in April 2023.

Total US wood pellet exports for the first four months of 2024 reached approximately 3.2 million metric tons at a value of $607.29 million, compared to 2.9 million metric tons exported during the same period of 2023 at a value of $531.25 million.
