Scotland Opens Advanced Timber Frame Construction Facility
The First Minister of Scotland has officially opened one of the UK’s most technologically advanced timber frame construction facilities in Irvine, Scotland, Timber Development UK (TDUK) reported (5-2-25).
Operated by Alexander Timber Design (ATD), a company owned by Glennon Brothers, the £18 million (US$23.9 million) facility brings Glennon Brothers’ total investment in Scotland to more than €80 million (US$90.4 million).
The cutting-edge plant integrates advanced robotics, precision engineering, and next-generation design systems to deliver high-quality Scottish timber homes while meeting world-class standards for efficiency, sustainability, and resource use.
ATD sources raw materials from its sister sawmill in Troon, which supplies timber for the construction, fencing, and packaging sectors. The Troon facility powers its operations with a combined heat and power (CHP) plant that uses its own wood residues to generate electricity and produce heat for kiln drying.
With growing pressure on the UK construction industry to reduce its carbon footprint, the opening of this facility offers a scalable and sustainable solution aligned with national and international climate goals, TDUK said.
