Södra Intends to Divest Its Forest Holdings and Other Operations in the Baltics

Södra, Sweden’s largest forest owners’ association and an international forest industry group, announced on Friday that it plans to sell its forest holdings in the Baltic countries.

Södra owns approximately 153,000 hectares (378,000 acres) of land in Estonia and Latvia, the majority of which is in Latvia. As part of its mission is to refine its members’ forests and refine their raw materials to create value for the forest estate, Södra said it decided to initiate a process to divest its forest holdings and associated operations in these countries.

According to the announcement, the process means Södra is currently looking at potential stakeholders with the ambition to move forward with a sale in 2025.

In a statement accompanying the announcement, Peter Karlsson, Business Area Manager at Södra Skog, said:

“Our mission is about the members’ forests, not that we should own forests ourselves. Therefore, we have initiated a sale and now a process is underway to find the right buyer. But we are in no hurry.”
