European Wood-Based Panel Production and Consumption Rise in 2025
European wood-based panels production output rose 3% in 2025
European wood-based panel production grew 3.0% in 2025, according to data released by the European Panel Federation (EPF) and shared at its General Assembly in Milan on June 12, Timber Trades Journal reported (6-15-26).
Production across EPF countries rose to 59.6 million m3, while apparent consumption also increased 3.0% to 60.9 million m3. Imports climbed 35% to 1.3 million m3.
EPF said demand remains constrained by weak house construction, high interest rates, and cautious consumer spending. The group also said European panel producers continue to face high energy and raw material costs, weighing on their competitiveness against other regions.
Particleboard, the largest product category, rose 1.5% to 31.8 million m3. MDF output increased 4.1% to 11.7 million m3, excluding Turkey and Russia, while OSB production grew 2.0% to 7.2 million m3.
Softboard production rose 12.3% to 6.1 million m3, surpassing its recent 2021 peak by 8%.
EU27 plywood production declined 1.4% to 2.4 million m3, while total European plywood output, including Russia, Turkey, Ukraine, and Belarus, fell 4.2% to 6.3 million m3.
