BrasPine Plans $250 Million Sawmill Investment in Uruguay
BrasPine recently announced plans to invest $250 million in a new sawmill in Rivera, Uruguay, following months of talks with the national government and Rivera departmental officials.
According to the Government of Uruguay, the plant will use locally sourced pine and will be developed in several phases, incorporating technology to produce finished products. In its initial phase, the facility is expected to employ 150 people, with projected growth of up to 400 jobs.
The project marks BrasPine’s first plant outside Brazil, where the company was established 23 years ago. Officials said the decision to locate in Uruguay was influenced by the company’s knowledge of the forestry and timber sector in the country’s north, as well as available energy resources and confidence in Uruguayan institutions.
Construction will begin this year.
