Homanit Plans to Build Its First US Manufacturing Facility in Alcolu, SC
Germany’s Homanit GmbH & Co., a leading global manufacturer of thin, high-quality finished MDF/ HDF wood fiberboards, announced plans to build its first US manufacturing facility near Alcolu, South Carolina, according to the South Carolina Daily Gazette (5-21-25).
With a $250 million investment, the company will develop the plant on a 140-acre site and has committed to creating 300 jobs.
Slated to begin operations in 2028, the facility will produce wood paneling for use in furniture, vehicles, and doors. The product line is expected to be especially significant for South Carolina’s timber industry, which has been struggling following the closure of several major paper mills.
In a statement, Homanit Managing Director Fritz Homann said:
“This investment marks a significant milestone for our company, and we’re proud to become part of such a vibrant and forward-looking region. The area’s skilled workforce, strategic location and strong infrastructure make Clarendon County the ideal foundation for our next phase of growth in North America.”
