Brazilian Exports of Wood-Based Products Declined Year-Over-Year in May 2023

According to the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO) in May 2023 Brazilian exports of wood-based products (except pulp and paper) declined 35.0% in value compared to May from US $503.3 million in May 2022 to US $329.2 million in May 2023.

Pine sawnwood exports fell 12.0% in value decreasing from US $84.6 million in May 2022 to US $74.5 million in May 2023. In volume, export increased 4.0% during the same period from 295,200 cu.m to 306,300 cu.m., in the same time period.

Tropical sawnwood exports decreased 34.0% in volume, from 43,900 cu.m in May 2022 to 29,000 cu.m in May 2023. In value terms, exports decreased 21.0% from US $18.8 million to US $14.9 million over the same time period.

In May 2023, demand for Pine plywood exports fell 37.0%, when compared to May 2022, from US $101.9 million in May 2022 to US $63.8 million in May 2023. In volume, exports dropped 17.0% over the same time period, from 239,200 cu.m to 195,900 cu.m.

Tropical plywood exports declined 46.0% in volume, and by 44.0% in value, from 5,900 cu.m and US $3.4 million in May 2022 to 3,200 cu.m and US $1.9 million in May 2023.

Wooden furniture exported value fell from US $58.8 million in May 2022 to US $52.1 million in May 2023. This represents a 11.0% decline in total wooden furniture exports during the same time period.
