North London 9-story Mass Timber Office Building – 2 Copper Square – Gains Necessary Approvals

Construction Inquirer.com reported on Wednesday (7-5-23), that developer Related Argent has gained consent for a pioneering 9- story mass timber office building to be located in the Brent Cross Town redevelopment in north London.  The big timber office project site will be adjacent to the recently opened Claremont Park and sit alongside two major new public squares that will act as a gateway into the rest of the neighborhood.

Designed by architects Bennetts Associates, the 2 Cooper Square project relies on an engineered timber frame and will use off-site construction to set industry-leading targets for embodied carbon reduction, operational efficiency, and user wellbeing.

Brent Cross Town, which is being developed by Related Argent and Barnet Council, is among Europe’s largest urban regeneration projects and, once completed, aims to be one of the UK’s largest net zero town centers.

In speaking about the project, Brent Cross Town development director, Matt Flood, said “Delivering majority-timber buildings in the UK is ambitious, and therefore can be challenging, however, it’s important for a zero-carbon future that we continually innovate.” In turn Flood added, “2 Coppers Square will offer an amazing opportunity for a business to make a tangible statement about their own ESG commitments and values.”
