Brazilian Exports of Wood-Based Products Decline Year-Over-Year in October

According to the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO), Brazilian exports of wood-based products (except pulp and paper) in October declined 31.0% in value compared to October 2022, falling from US$317.1 million in October 2022 to US$219.7 million in October 2023.

Pine sawnwood exports plunged 43.0% in value, decreasing from US$50.4 million in October 2022 to US$28.6 million in October 2023. In volume terms, exports decreased by 34.0% during the same period, dropping from 192,700 m3 to 127,900 m3.

Tropical sawnwood exports declined 43.0% in volume, falling from 36,200 m3 in October 2022 to 20,600 m3 in October 2023. In value terms, exports declined 50.0%—from US$18.2 million to US$9.1 million—over the same period.

Demand for pine plywood exports decreased 29.0% in value when compared to October 2022, from US$61.6 million in October 2022 to US$43.5 million in October 2023. In volume terms, exports fell 18.0% over the same period, decreasing from 171,800 m3 to 140,600 m3.

Tropical plywood exports declined 23.0% in volume and 19.0% in value, falling from 2,200 m3 and US$1.6 million in October 2022 to 1,700 m3 and US$1.3 million in October 2023.

The value of wooden furniture exports fell from US$52.9 million in October 2022 to US$46.3 million in October 2023—an almost 13.0% decline.
