BC Provincial Government Announces Additional Investments in Mass Timber Demonstration Projects
B.C. makes mass-timber investments for new demonstration projects
The British Columbia provincial government announced on Wednesday (7-12-23) that it is providing more than $4 million (CAD) for 12 new mass timber demonstration and research projects, building on BC’s global leadership in this area.
According to the press release, BC is a leader in developing and utilizing mass timber products, technologies, and services that are reducing greenhouse gas emissions, while changing the face of construction throughout the province. The support of mass timber construction also brings the province closer to its goal of building a more sustainable, inclusive, and innovative economy for people, businesses, and communities throughout BC.
The government says there are 8 demonstration building projects and 4 research projects receiving funding from the third intake of the Mass Timber Demonstration Program (MTDP). Projects range from a new aquatic center in Golden to a mixed-use development featuring an 18-story mass timber tower in Vancouver’s Killarney neighborhood. This will help further expand the use of mass timber in BC’s construction sector by providing designers and builders with real-world knowledge and experience they can learn from.
