Ledcor Group Announces Permanent Closure of Its Chilliwack, BC, Cant Mill and Forestry Operations

The Nanamio News Bulletin reported on Tuesday (7-11-23) that the Ledcor Group has announced its intention to permanently close its Chilliwack, BC, cant mill at the end of August and its Forestry Group operations shortly thereafter.

The cant mill, which had its grand opening in 2013, transforms logs into chips, cants, and biomass. “Cants” are typically a 4” by 4” to 2” by 8” square wood product at 8’ to 13’ in length. Ledcor has customers in Canada, China, and the US that currently use the products.

In a statement cited by Nanamio News Bulletin, Ledcor’s President Don Quan said:

“Following extensive analysis of its forestry operating footprint and the long-term economic outlook of fiber supply, Ledcor has made the difficult decision to permanently close down our Forest group, which includes the Chilliwack Cant Mill facility, biomass, and trucking operation.”

Ledcor will continue to operate the Silverdale Reload facility in nearby Mission, BC, and our marine operations, enabling on-going marine transportation service to our existing clients.”

Ledcor’s forestry group will be following a winddown process “over the next few months.”
