US Weekly Jobless Claims Climb Higher in the Week Ending October 21st

The US Department of Labor reported on Thursday (10-26-23) that the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 210,000 during the week ending Saturday, October 21st. That is an increase of 10,000 from the previous week’s revised level of 200,000 (originally reported as 198,000). The 4-week moving average was 207,500—an increase of 1,250 from the previous week’s revised average of 206,250 (originally reported as 205,750).

The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment, known as continuing claims, during the week ending October 14th was 1,790,000. That is an increase of 63,000 from the previous week’s revised level of 1,727,000 (originally reported as 1,734,000). The 4-week moving average was 1,723,500—an increase of 31,250 from the previous week’s revised level of 1,692,250 (originally reported as 1,694,000).

The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.2% for the week ending October 14th, unchanged from the previous week’s unrevised rate.
