Uptick in Construction Hiring Reported in December 2019

Data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Job Opening and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS) reveals that construction job openings posted a monthly increase in December 2019 to 239,000 construction jobs, up from November’s total of 217,000. The result of renewed hiring in the construction industry following the housing soft patch of 2018 and 2019. The December 2019 count of unfilled jobs, however, represents a year-over-year decline relative to the 299,000 unfilled construction jobs in December 2018.
