New Tentative Labor Agreement Reached Between Canadian Dock Workers and Employers

Reuters reported Monday (7-31-23) that West Coast dock workers in Canada and their employers’ association have reached a tentative labor agreement, averting an immediate strike.

In a joint statement released late on Sunday evening, both the International Longshore and Warehouse Canada Union (ILWU) and the British Columbia Maritime Employers Association (BCMEA) said they were recommending ratification of the new agreement.

The union, representing about 7,500 dock workers, has agreed not to call a strike until a ratification vote, the Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) said on Monday, adding that the vote must be held no later than Friday.
