Job Openings and Labor Turnover Summary for June

On Tuesday (8-1-23), the US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released the Job Openings and Labor Turnover Summary (JOLTS) for June. According to the JOLTS report, as of the last business day in June, the number of job openings and rate was little changed at 9.6 million and the rate was unchanged at 5.8%.

In June, the number of hires decreased to 5.9 million, down 326,000 from in May, while the hire rate was little changed at 3.8%.

The total number and rate of separations decreased to 5.6 million, down 288,000, while the rate was little changed at 3.6%.

The number and rate of quits declined by 295,000 to 3.8 million and a rate of 2.4%.

The number and rate of layoffs and discharges was little changed at 1.5 million, and the rate held steady at 1.0%.

The number of other separations was little changed at 339,000 in June.

Establishments with 1 to 9 employees saw a decrease in their quit rate and an increase in their other separations rate. Establishments with more than 5,000 employees both saw an increase in their quit rate.
