US National Interagency Fire Center Wildfire Update for the Week Ending October 27th

The US National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC) reported that as of Friday, October 27th, 11 large wildfires have burned more than 122,231 acres in 7 states. Seven new large wildfires were reported during the week, 3 in the Rocky Mountain Area and four in Southern Area.

Approximately 960 wildland firefighters and support personnel are assigned to incidents across the nation. The National Preparedness Level remains at a 1 out of 5.

The number of large new fires or emergency responses as of October 27th was 7. The number of active large fires stands at 11 (not including individual fires within complexes). There are currently 122,121 acres actively involved in fires. The total number of wildfires contained stands at 1.

The states currently reporting large fires are California and Colorado with 3 each and Arizona, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas with 1 each.

The updated year-to-date comparison is as follows:

  • Year-to-date through October 27th, 48,681 wildfires were reported, and they had burned 2,521,837 acres.
  • During the same period last year, 58,385 wildfires were reported, and they had burned 7,211,472 acres.
  • The 10-year average (2013–22) for the same period is 49,015 fires and 6,560,411 acres burned.
