US National Interagency Fire Center Wildfire Update for the Week Ending October 13

The US National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC) is reporting that as of Friday, October 13th, 15 large wildfires have burned more than 283,736 acres in 6 states. Two new large wildfires were reported on Thursday in California.

Approximately 1,900 wildland firefighters and support personnel are assigned to incidents across the nation. The National Preparedness Level has been lowered to a of 1 out of 5.

The number of large new fires or emergency responses as of October 13th was 2. The number of active large fires stands at 2 (not including individual fires within complexes). The number of fires was also 2.

The states reporting large wildfires were California with 7; Oregon with 4; and Arizona, Louisiana, Michigan, and New Mexico with 1 each.

The NIFC is working to fix issues with the 2023 year-to-date totals. These statistics will be reported when it is resolved.
