US National Interagency Fire Center Wildfire Update for the Week Ending August 11th

The US National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC) is reporting that as of Friday, August 11th, 88 large wildfires have burned 577,396 acres in a dozen states. Ten large new wildfires were reported on Thursday.
More than 11,000 wildland firefighters and support personnel have been deployed to incidents across the country. This includes 15 incident management teams, nearly 240 crews, 458 engines, 76 helicopters, and one MAFFS C-130 airtanker and support personnel. The National Preparedness Level remains at a 3 out of 5.
In addition, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has activated Emergency Support Function 4 (ESF4) to assist with wildfires burning in Hawaii.
The number of active large fires stands at 85 (not including individual fires within complexes). The total number of wildfires fires contained stands at 9. The states reporting large wildfires are Alaska with 25; New Mexico with 13; Idaho and Montana with 10 each; Arizona and Texas with 6 each; Oregon with 5, Colorado with 4; California and Washington with 2 each; and Louisiana and Utah with 1 each.
The updated year-to-date comparison is as follows:
- From 1/1/23 through 8/11/23, 33,700 wildfires have been reported and they have burned 1,546,630 acres.
- From 1/1/22 through 8/11/22, 20,096 wildfires had been reported and they had burned 5,902,571 acres.
- The 10-year average (2013–22) for the same period is 36,431 wildfires and 4,217,043 acres burned.
