Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Control Center Wildfire Update for Week Ending June 29, 2023

The Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Center (CIFFC),  a non-for-profit corporation owned and operated  by the federal, provincial, and territorial wildland fire management agencies to coordinate resource sharing, mutual aid, and information sharing, reported on Thursday (6-29-23), that the Canada is currently at a wildfire preparedness level of 5 out of 5. This as wildfires continue to burn across Canada.

According to the CIFFC, as of Thursday there were 2 new wildfires reported, there were now 497 active wildfires. Of the current 497 wildfires, 231 remaining out of control, 96 are being reported as held, and 170 being reported as controlled. Year-to-date a total of 3,063 wildfires have been reported.

Year-to-date the CIFFC is reporting that 8.2 million hectares have burned. That is the equivalent of 20,262,641.28 acres.
