Melbourne, Australia, Gaining 15-Story Office Building Constructed From Local Timber

Located on Melbourne, Australia’s Wellington Street, the T3 will be 15 stories and comprise 18,200 square-feet of A-grade commercial floorspace, according to a feature by Architecture & Design magazine (6-2-23). The T3’s towers will be made entirely of cross-laminated (CLT) and glue-laminated (GLT) timber.

It is estimated that the utilization of both timber products will reduce the emissions of the building by 34% in comparison to a similar building constructed of concrete and steel. Supplying the materials for the T3 will be XLam Australia and Australian Sustainable Hardwood.

Designed by Jackson Clements Burrows, global developer Hines has clearly signaled its sustainability intention with its new flagship T3 Collingwood development.

In a statement to Architecture & Design, Hines’ CEO Asia Pacific Ray Lawler said:

“T3 Collingwood is a ground-breaking, sustainable evolution of old-fashioned office buildings. The timber we use is rapidly renewable, sustainably sourced, cleaner to construct and helps keeps carbon out of the atmosphere.”

Timber is not only 100 percent renewable, recyclable and non-toxic, it also has productivity and wellness benefits. T3 Collingwood will have state-of-the-art connectivity systems, with collaboration working spaces and wellness inspired amenities.”
