Construction of 4-Story Mass Timber Building Underway in Wilmington, North Carolina

Construction has commenced within the Live Oak Bank campus in Wilmington, North Carolina, on an office building to be built using 100% mass timber, according to Building Design+Construction magazine (3-19-23).

“Building Four” will be a 67,000 square foot structure. The project, a joint building venture between GCs Swinerton and Wilmington-headquartered Monteith Construction, is scheduled to be completed in early 2023.

Swinerton’s sister company Timberlab will provide the glulam and cross-laminated timber (CLT) fabrication. LA3P designed the four-story building, which is surrounded by trees and located in front of an expansive pond. The building is designed to achieve LEED Silver certification.

Citing the Port City Daily, Building Design+Construction reports Live Oak Bank is investing $25 million in the construction of Building Four to keep up with the bank’s growth, which has seen employment increase from 95 employees in 2012 to 925 today. Live Oak Bank received $2 million in state and local incentives to expand it campus under an economic development program called Project Buckeye.
