B.C.’s Old-Growth Logging Deferrals by the Numbers

The BC government is continuing to work through a process, which is already underway, to temporarily defer logging in priority old-growth forests. In turn, it allows the government time to work with First Nations to decide how they should be managed in the long term. Experts had identified 2.6 million hectares of unprotected old-growth forest at risk of permanent biodiversity loss.

Job Openings and Labor Turnover Summary Released for April 2022

On Wednesday, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported the Job Openings and Labor Turnover Summary (JOLTS) for April 2022. According to the JOLTS report, as of the last day in April, the number of job openings decreased from its all-time in March of 11.5 million to 11.4 million (-455,000), or a rate of 7.0%.

Tolko Company Releases Update on Fire Damage Repair Process for High Prairie, Alberta, OSB Facility

Investigations continue into the fire that damaged the Tolko OSB facility in High Prairie, Alberta, on Friday, May 20. Currently, there is no production taking place at the site. The facility is still shipping out existing finished product as trucks and empty railcars become available. On May 30, operations teams started clean-up in restricted areas.
