The US National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC) reported that in the week ending Friday, April 18, 31 uncontained wildfires were burning in the southern geographic, eastern geographic, Rocky Mountain, and Northern Rockies areas. Thirteen of these fires are being managed with full suppression strategies.
The National Fire Preparedness Level remains at a 1 out of 5.
Daily Statistics
Florida, Oklahoma, and North Carolina are reporting three fires each, with Alabama, Georgia, Minnesota, and South Dakota reporting one each. There are a total of 8,594 acres burning and only 19 of the 31 large wildfires are partially contained.
The updated year-to-date comparison is as follows:
- Year-to-date through April 18, 19,512 wildfires have been reported, and they have burned 881,249 acres.
- During the same period last year, 10,3581 wildfires were reported, and they had burned 1,775,148 acres.
- The 10-year average (2015–24) for the same time period is 13,116 wildfires and 827,522 acres burned.
